Should i keep playing the cello?

I love playing the cello, i am not amazing but i am mediocore, my private lesson teacher wasn't me to buy an instrument and i do too, my parents talk about how i will give it up eventually, and how expensive it is, all of my friends in orchestra, their parents are always wanting to listen to their kids play. my parents, no not really. its making me a bit depressed, and its extremely discouraging. are they doing what is best for me or are they being cheap and unsupportive?
