Is my best friend suicidal?

My best friends recently been having a rough time at home. His parents are going through a divorce, his mom kicked him and his dad out, his school reported his mom for child abuse and I think he's thinking of killing himself. What are some symptoms? I really need a way to know. I asked a teacher and all they did was give me a suicide hotline number! Help!!!
