Wouldn't it be better if we stopped wasting money on military expenditure and invested more in energy research?

as climate change and oil are major issues at the moment and we need a way of sustainable living. Education too. I live in an area where the schools are pretty run down and I think they need a lot more investment in them. Also increase in minimum wage and for public sector workers such as nurses, firemen and teachers.
