1996 ford Escort won't shift gears after 60 km?

The gears go from low to high to overdrive. It shifts great from low to high but around 40 km it reves out and I have to shift it into overdrive. It just reves out then from then on. I've already had the trans filter changed and the fuel too. Any ideas or am I going to have to ge a new trans :(
